Unbeknownst to me, I found myself walking along the route of Line 4 of the Metrobus system. My impression of those buses had been the one I was left with when I first saw them running along Insurgentes. They ran quite fast in reserved centre lanes, were very loud and belched out black smoke. They would stop at raised stations in the centre of the arterial which provides a prepaid boarding area for passengers. I recall Reforma also has buses from the same system but there they run in exclusive exterior lanes and stop curbside. Along this cobblestoned street, the buses ran in both directions in the two narrow lanes. Given there was little traffic other than bus and hurried pedestrian commuters, the street was abuzz with movement yet wasn't producing such a racket that you couldn't hear the conversations of others in your vicinity. The hubbub was invigourating and the atmosphere relaxed, giving a real sense of the pulse of this downtown neighbourhood.

Sadly, I rushed to my destination only stopping once to snap a pic of this deliciously ornate church façade.
